Jon Ruben pleaded guilty to 17 charges at Leicester Crown Court on Friday

An individual who spiked sweets with sleeping medication and gave them to youngsters at a youth camp in the area has admitted sexual offenses against two young males aged nine and 10.

Jon Ruben was arrested after eight minors and one adult experienced illness at the facility in July.

The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at Leicester Crown Court on the end of the week.

Nevertheless, he denied a single sexual charge he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old child.

Ruben was remanded in custody ahead of a further hearing on November 28th.

'Treat game'

The prosecutor, prosecuting, detailed the criminal behavior to the court.

She explained his victims were under-privileged children who were attending a summer program which he managed.

The defendant conducted a "treat game" with the youngsters, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were preparing to sleep and ask them to ingest treats "rapidly".

She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had previously become sick the subsequent day.

She explained the man had been successful in rationalizing this for many years as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in recently.

Mrs Prior KC added: "In the summer" his stepchild had suspicions about what was going on, justifiably.

"They decided to have a look in the man's possessions."

Mrs Prior KC explained materials including baby oil, petroleum jelly and syringes were located, and his family member notified the police about his worries.

She stated Ruben proceeded to play the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the next day.

"The police had not responded by that stage," she added.

The regulatory agency, the Independent Office for Police Conduct, previously told that it was examining the police response of the events.

Mrs Prior said the children were unable to walk properly due to their condition, so Ruben's stepson contacted the police once more.

She stated the defendant then played the "sweet game" in a room of five youngsters.
